IANZ, NATA, and NABL Mutual Recognition (Equivalence Across Borders)
If a lab says it is “accredited,” it means its systems, procedures, and staff competence have been independently audited against ISO/IEC 17025.
ISO Standard for Laboratory Accreditation
Accredited testing and calibration laboratories are assessed against:
ISO/IEC 17025 – General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories. This is the international standard that specifies competence, impartiality, and consistent operation of laboratories.
Medical laboratories may also use ISO 15189 (for clinical testing), but most industrial, mining, and materials labs use ISO/IEC 17025.
So if a lab says it is “accredited,” it means its systems, procedures, and staff competence have been independently audited against ISO/IEC 17025.
IANZ, NATA, NABL – Who They Are
IANZ = International Accreditation (New Zealand)
NATA = National Association of Testing Authorities (Australia)
NABL = National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (India)
All three are national accreditation bodies in their respective countries.
Mutual Recognition (Equivalence Across Borders)
IANZ, NATA, and NABL are all signatories to the ILAC MRA (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation Mutual Recognition Arrangement).
This means that test reports and calibration certificates issued by ISO/IEC 17025-accredited labs in one signatory country are generally accepted in other signatory countries.
For example, a test certificate from an IANZ-accredited lab in New Zealand should be accepted in Australia (NATA) or India (NABL), and vice versa.
This avoids duplication of testing and allows smoother trade.
